Classes and supply lists

We've had some great times with the project classes this winter and some repeat classes have been scheduled to give everyone who wanted them a chance.   

This is probably the last time they will be offered, however, since there are some new ones I want to offer as classes!   At least in the foreseeable future. 

I will show the classes, the supply lists, and some recommended paper packs.  Some of these, too, may not be available much longer.  I'll show some of the new patterns coming out.

Also, let them know ASAP if you need paper pads/collections ordered.  Some of the classic Graphic 45 patterns will soon be gone forever.  (Check at the end of the post for my favorites!)

"Build it and they will come"

Just a quick post, but I promise that I will have lots to share sooooon!

The various build-it project classes have been wildly popular at Missoula Memory Lane, so we sat down with the calender and made plans. 

It's really important if you want to have them order paper for you, to do so right away! 

The Secretary Box will be held May 19 and again in July.

The Occasions Folio will be offered in June.

The Build-A-Page class will be held in August.

These three projects were designed by Kathy at Paper Phenomenon and I bought the licenses to teach the classes with her designs.

Even better--we held a class at the end of April for The Unscrapbook, which is one of MY origninal designs.  This got great feedback, so I'll be offering it again in June (date announced soon) and the pattern will be released for sale as soon as I finish comparing the venues for that.  I'd like one that has immediate download, but I may need to wait until I have more patterns to make that affordable.

I got great feedback regarding the ease of following directions, but I want to make a few adjustments to make them even better.  I wanted to show pictures of a couple I was working on at that class.

Saturday, April 14--Opening of Second Saturday Stop & Shop  (9:00 to 12:00 at The Loft)

This will be a monthly venue with a variety of venders.  Cindi Honor and I have teamed up as
"Vintage Women Designs" making a variety of our creations available.  (I'll post a few pictures of things I'll have later in the week.)

Sunday, April 15--Beginning Alcohol Inks (1:00 at Memory Lane--$20.00)

Projects will include basic techniques and uses for alcohol inks for those who are new to this product.  (One of my VERY FAVORITES!) In addition, we'll learn some "faux finishes" that really help create a vintage look.  I'll also show how to "seal" alcohol ink projects to prevent rubbing off problems and to protect projects.  Register at Missoula Memory Lane or call 523-3957.

Friday--Sunday, May 4--6:  National Scrapbooking Day Free Crop!

This event is sponsored by Missoula Memory Lane and will be held in the old Social Security offices next door which has lots of room and tables will be provided.  Registrations are necessary so we can make sure to have enough tables.  Be sure to call Missoula Memory Lane to reserve your table now! In addition, throughout the weekend there will be classes, mini-classes, make-and-takes, and product demonstrations in the store and at the crop.  I will be doing some each day and will post them once the schedule is set.  I will say they will include La Blanche stamps, Distress Markers, and ATC cards!

Introducing:  The Unscrapbook

History:  This was inspired by several members of my family who are wonderful photographers and who take prodigious numbers of photos.  Since some of them are of the male persuasion, conventional scrapbooking with lots of decoration doesn't really appeal to them.  So, the Unscrapbook was born. 

What it is:  For those of us who are caught in the book/box/other-useful-stuff frenzy, I wanted to design something fun that would allow the display lots of photos in a manner that would appeal to them.  It can sit on a shelf like a book taking up very little space.

When opened up, there are twelve to twenty-four flip envelopes that can hold full 4 X 6 inch photos (even matted!) or accordian folds with tons of pictures.  They will even hold a bunch of loose photos.  The picture below is shown with twelve flip envelopes, a pocket for maps and such, and some room for special pictures.

There's even a hidden "scrapbook page" on the back. 

 

The whole thing is held together with strong magnets.  I like to use a "discrete" cover with colorful insides with papers like Tropical Travelogue from Graphic 45.  (I'll show a few suggestions below.)  They can be displayed on a table this way, too!

 I also love the effect I get with the new Kraft Collection from Graphic 45.  I think these papers have a real masculine look to them.  (Remember, Fathers' Day isn't far off.)

This weekend--I'll be hosting a Mini Technique Class at Memory Lanes at 10:30. 

We'll be making some of the Pine Cone Rose ATC Cards that I taught at the retreat for those who may have missed it.  This is a great opportunity to learn to make the pine cone rose (as well as the pine cone, itself), try out some Distress Stain and Kraft Relief paper from Tim Holtz. All for $6.00.

I am eagerly awaiting the Distress Markers that will be shipping soon.  These have all of the great properties of the other Distress product line--in a marker!  Wait until you see them!  We'll have some demos and classes coming up.

Tim will no longer be doing the 12 tags of Christmas.  Instead he is doing the ^{12 Tags of 2012} with a new technique tag every month.

1st--The Retreat this Weekend!  It looks like LOTS OF FUN!  Thanks to Wendy Jordan and all of her hard work organizing it. 

It's not too late to join the fun.  You get to take three workshops with the sign up or even more if you want.  Check it out here!

 

 

 

2nd--March classes:  I have postponed the class that was scheduled on March 3, the Build-a-Page class, and will reschedule it for later this spring or summer.

In its place, I will be offering a technique mini-class.  That's one project with one main technique and hands on experience with several products for only $6.00!  More details next week.

The Secretary Box classes are scheduled for Saturday OR Sunday (2 separate classes), March 17 OR 18.  We are cutting off the registration at 10 people per class.  When I checked the other day there were only 3 spots left!  I will offer the class again if both classes fill up, but not until summer.

 

 

An as-of-yet-unscheduled class for those funny looking new stamps from La Blanche.  I'll have samples and pictures here by next week.  I'm loving them!

Finally--The Blog:  Paper Pads and Paper Packs

For a really long time, I stayed away from paper pads/packs because

• I only really liked a couple of the pages and thought the rest would be wasted.
• The papers were too much alike in color and style within the pad/pack.  I wanted more variety.
• A few single sheets were cheaper.

Now--Paper Pads/Packs can be a Creative Bonus

• A really good pad has great papers that spark my imagination and complement each other.
• A really good pad has coordinated papers, but have enough designs to create different looks from the same collection.
• I can get more variety than from single sheets.  Even my favorite store can't carry every paper in a line for lots of different lines. 
• Plus, the total of individual sheets would generally more than the pad/pack.
• The trick is to find the really great paper packs...

No. 1:  Graphic 45

These are great quality double sided paper that will hold their shape, bend without cracking, and keep their strength when distressing

There is a wide variety of coordinating papers with different colors.  Lots of different looks. 

Very versatile--I use nearly every scrap for paper crafting, scrapbooking, card making.  This makes it a good value! 

No. 2:  Tim Holtz Paper Collections

Again, these are great quality papers that work well for whatever I do.

Unfortunately, there is only one sheet of a design included in a pack and they aren't available in open stock. 

No. 3:  Tied--Bo Bunny and Cosmo Cricket

Good quality paper for the things I do.

I don't universally love all of the collections like I do with my other picks, but I like enough of them to meet my creative needs at times.

Just as promised (even if a little late) here are the materials lists for the upcoming classes for the Build-a-Page and Secretary Box classes.

This class is filling up fast!  If we full up both sections, and there are more interested, I'll schedule another class later on.  We're limiting the classes to 10 so that everyone will have ample room and help.

 

 

Winter CHA 2012: Confessions of an Unabashed Groupie

This was my first CHA and I felt that gave me the right to be a groupie and ask to get my picture taken with some of my favorite crafty people.  Next year I might be more mature about it--or not! 

Sooo...here I am.  Some people (from Missoula) came to call me the crazy hat lady.  More about that later!

Snow Days!!

January 19, 2012

After spending an hour digging my car out from the curb where it had been blocked by the snowplow and about a foot of snow since yesterday morning, I got to school only to find out that school had been cancelled.  Earlier in the morning, it had been announced as a two hour delay. 

The good news is that I can do a lot of my schoolwork from home online.  The BETTER news is that I can hunker down over my craft table guilt free!  School's already cancelled for tomorrow! 

Another sneak peek for the 36 Hour Montana Crafter's Retreat in February.  I wanted to make some roses with the pine cone die from Tim Holtz.  Then, I had to design an ATC project.  Of course, this is only one of the examples.  Participants will have a variety of images, colors, and embellishments to create unique an wonderful mini works of art. 

 

 

These of course are all about introducing techniques and using products in creative ways. 

 

Upcoming Events & Sneaks

January 18, 2012

Coming in February:

I will be showing some original designs for papercrafting. 

The first one will by the "unscrapbook" for those who aren't scrapbookers, but want a cool way to display lots of pictures.  Of course, for those who are scrapbookers and crafters, there are ways to add lots of creative elements.  I will present classes here in western Montana and will start making online tutorials and/or kits available.

The Montana Craft Guild will be holding a retreat February 25-26 here in Missoula.  For more information check here. 

I will be doing a few mini classes showing great techniques using ATCs (Artist Trading Cards).  Of course, the techniques can be used for card making, scrapbooking, and other paper crafting.

Here is a sneak of one of the ways to use all of those great paper scraps that build up on your work table (or, if you are like me, they are cascading onto the floor).  I think of it as a type of crazy quilt.  We'll also look at the history of ATCs, what to do with them, display and swap them. 

 

 

Secretary Box--School

I couldn't stand it any longer--I just had to make up the secretary box in the

Graphic 45 An ABC Primer paper.

This pad doesn't have the punch out tags and frames.  I've used some of the chipboard embellishments (there are two sets) which must be purchased separately.  There are also three stamp sets that match as well.  The left over paper and embellishments make great cards and scrapbook pages.

I am a school teacher, after all!  Is this fantastic or what??  All my school teacher buddies think it is awesome!!
